Targeted Intervention in Noida – Deepening HIV Prevention
The ongoing fight to minimize HIV transmission among high-risk groups
Since May 2022, Basera’s Targeted Intervention (TI) project with UPSACS has zeroed in on the 700 highest-risk individuals in Gautam Budh Nagar: 500 FSWs and 200 MSMs. We began by mapping both core groups (FSWs, MSMs) and bridge groups (truckers, migrants, street children), identifying service gaps and hotspots. Our outreach team—seven community workers and ten peer educators—launched bespoke workshops on sexual health, distributed condoms, and hosted health camps that tested for STIs and counselled participants.
TI goes beyond the clinic. We’ve held 45 sensitization sessions with local hospitals, law enforcement, and corporate HR teams, building safer environments for sex workers and MSMs. Our linkages with ICTCs and ART centres guarantee immediate referrals for anyone testing positive.
As we prepare to expand into non-catchment areas, Basera is piloting Self Help Groups. These peer-managed collectives oversee micro-savings, plan community events, and respond to crises—embodying Basera’s mantra that prevention flourishes when communities own the solution.
