Basera Samajik Sansthan is a transgender-led organisation. Everything we do rests on dignity, safety and trust. These are our main policies, approved by our Governing Body, written here in simple words. If you are a community member, staff member, volunteer, donor or partner and something feels wrong, you can always reach us.

1. Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH)

We have zero tolerance for sexual harassment, by any gender against any gender. Our policy protects women, transgender, gender-diverse and LGBTQ+ persons in the office, in the field, during travel and online. Harassment based on gender identity or expression, including misgendering, is also covered.

  • An Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) under the POSH Act, 2013 handles complaints. It is led by our Secretary and includes an external member who is a transgender rights expert.
  • A complaint can be made in writing, in person or by email within three months. If you cannot write, the committee will help you.
  • The inquiry is fair and confidential and is completed within 90 days. No one who complains in good faith will face any backlash.
  • If the complaint is against the head of the organisation, it can be filed with the Local Committee of District Gautam Buddh Nagar.
  • Email the ICC: icc.baserasamajiksansthan@gmail.com

2. Rights of Transgender Persons

We do not allow any discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression – in hiring, promotion, work conditions or access to our services. As required by the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, we have a Complaint Officer.

  • Complaint Officer: Ramkali, Secretary, Basera Samajik Sansthan (in her absence, the President).
  • A complaint can be made in writing, by email or verbally. It is acknowledged within 3 working days and resolved within 30 days.
  • Your identity is kept confidential, and any retaliation is treated as misconduct.

3. People Living with HIV (PLHIV)

We follow the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017. No one is treated differently because of their HIV status.

  • No HIV test is ever required to get a job, a service or training with us.
  • HIV status and any HIV-related information is kept strictly confidential and is never shared without informed consent, except where the law allows.
  • Staff living with HIV can ask for reasonable changes at work, and these are kept confidential.
  • Complaints Officer under the HIV Act: Deepika, Vice Secretary, Basera Samajik Sansthan. Complaints are acknowledged and decided within seven working days – on the same day in an emergency. You may also approach the Ombudsman directly.

4. Safeguarding – Children and Adults at Risk

Many people come to us at a difficult time in their lives. We have a Child Protection Policy and a Safeguarding Policy for adults at risk, including residents of Garima Greh, our shelter home.

  • Safeguarding Focal Person: Pradeep Singh, President, Basera Samajik Sansthan.
  • All staff are oriented on safeguarding when they join and every year after that.
  • Photos or stories of community members are used only with their consent, and children are never identified.

5. Equal Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate in hiring, training, promotion or benefits on the basis of gender identity, sexual orientation, HIV status, caste, religion, disability or any other personal identity. Many of our staff and leaders come from the communities we serve.

6. Money, Transparency and Accountability

  • Our accounts are audited every year by an independent Chartered Accountant.
  • Foreign contributions are received and used only as allowed under the FCRA, and our FCRA returns are filed every year.
  • Purchases above ₹20,000 need at least three quotations and a purchase committee; large purchases need Governing Body approval.
  • Our annual reports, audit reports and FCRA returns are on our Reports page.

7. Speaking Up (Whistleblower)

If you see fraud, misuse of funds or any serious wrongdoing, please tell us. No one will be punished for raising a concern in good faith.

8. Your Personal Information

We collect personal information only with consent, only for the purpose it was given, and we never sell or share it. Information about gender identity, sexual orientation or health is protected with extra care. To ask what information we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, write to info@baserasamajiksansthan.org.
