Summary
Many transgender persons and MSM in Uttar Pradesh cannot get a ration card, a pension or even a bank account, because they do not have the right papers. This project set out to fix that, one document at a time.
We worked across the whole state through two teams: Unit 1 in Noida for western Uttar Pradesh, and Unit 2 in Bareilly for the central and eastern districts. Our community facilitators helped people with:
ID documents: Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, income, residence and caste certificates
Transgender identity cards: filling applications and following up
Bank accounts: so people could receive money and benefits directly
Government schemes: Ayushman Bharat, pensions and other welfare schemes
We worked closely with social welfare departments in each district, and we did not stop at the application. We followed up until the person actually received the document or benefit.
What we did in the final six months (April – September 2025)
2,063 applications filed, and 1,972 benefits actually received
670 ID documents and certificates issued
601 bank accounts opened
701 people linked to social protection schemes
